 Every now and hen I yearn for a new pet. I have thoughts of purchasing an upscale coop, a couple nesting boxes, minor accessories…and some hens. Wouldn’t it be fun to wake up to the soft crow of a feathered friend, scramble up some organic eggs, and fertilize the garden in a pesticide-free way?

As I watched the sun rise from my window seat on the plane this morning, my city shoes were laced up and I was ready to hit the streets!  I'm ready for fashion week The very first time I set foot in New York City, I was a goner! My native southern Californian heart was captured by the hustle and bustle, the spirit and the scale of this extraordinary city. Although I reside on the opposite side of the country, a little piece of my soul lives in the big apple. So you can imagine my elation when PETCO asked me to spend next week in NYC covering PETCO’s New York Market Makeover, all the while one of the biggest events in the world is taking place – New York Fashion Week!

 $1 per gallon tank sale When I say tanks what do you think of?
- Heavily armed vehicles of destruction?
- White cylinders that make propane grills work?
- Shirts with no sleeves that should not be worn by men (at least not by me)?
If you’re a pet person you probably think of aquariums, terrariums, vivariums, or any other “-iums” that involve glass rectangles and living things.
I fall firmly into the “-iums” camp. Sitting on my desk as I type this is a 40-gallon tank housing my corn snake Sammy as well as a 20-gallon freshwater community tank (featuring the star of the Snuggies for Fish article).

PETCO was informed today, July 2, that United Pet Group (UPG) was voluntarily recalling several of its nutritional supplements for dogs and cats due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall affects six SKUs carried by PETCO in the Excel and PETCO brands, in tablet and powdered form, located in the Vitamins & Remedies section.

PETCO was notified today, June 19, that Natural Balance is voluntarily recalling Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog food with the “Best By” date of June 17, 2011, in 5- and 28-pound bags because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

At PETCO, the health and wellbeing of pets are our primary concern, and we want to alert you that Procter & Gamble initiated a voluntary recall today of its Iams wet cat food products out of concern that thiamine (Vitamin B1), an ingredient in the food, loses potency over time.

I’m a crazy busy mom of three – two humans, one dog – and I never thought much about getting a good deal.  A Doggie Yoga Pose
Grass in a parking lot? Yup. I thought it was a little weird, but the dogs loved it. You could see it in their faces when they entered through the gate at the PETCO Natural Neighborhood Festival in Santa Monica, CA.
“Concrete, concrete, concrete, concrete, concrete, concr… whoa… GRASS!!! Woo Hoo! ”
