I’ve heard a lot of great stories lately having to do with our four legged friends and our soldiers, both here and overseas. First, there was the story of Nubs, an Iraqi stray that found his home in a solider he just couldn’t leave behind. Nubs even trekked 75 miles of harsh desert terrain to [...]

PETCO stores nationwide are immediately pulling five SKUs of cow hooves treats, sold under the PETCO brand, from all of its shelves following a health alert issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The alert warns consumers not to use pig ears and beef hooves pet treats manufactured by Pet Carousel because the products [...]
I recently read an article in People magazine about a dog, named Willow, who supposedly knows how to read. Apparently, her dog trainer mother silently holds up signs like “sit up” and Willow responds by actually sitting up.
While some argue the dog isn’t actually reading but rather discriminating between the various shapes of the letters, her [...]
The following story comes from Patrick Daly, an Assistant Manager at the PETCO store in Allen Park, Mich.
As I stand on the sidewalk, watching men and women dressed in Hazmat suits move hastily in and out of what looks like a well kept bungalow-style house, the unmistakable odor of garbage and animal feces permeates the air.
Garbage bag after garbage bag of waste is being carried to an awaiting dumpster.
“You have to move to across the street, people!” the man in the white suit and helmet says. “It’s not safe to be breathing in this stuff.”
The group of bystanders moves quickly to the other side of the street. “How could anyone live like that?” one says. Everyone nods in agreement.
Three days earlier, on July 24 , the Dearborn Animal Control officers aided by the Dearborn Animal Shelter and following up on a tip, raided a home in Dearborn, Mich.
Chihuahua's were found throughout the home
Inside, 104 Chihuahuas of all sizes, shapes and ages where running throughout the home. The owner and the dogs had lived among

We launched our pledge to premium nutrition today. Hmmm. A Pledge. A pledge to me is like a promise. A really important promise, at that. When I first chatted with our Sr. VP of Marketing, Elisabeth Charles about it, it dawned on me that our pledge is not only important, but at the heart of who we are and what we do at PETCO because it is at the heart of who we are and what we do as good pet parents. The first line of the pledge couldn’t sum it up any better, “PETCO believes every pet deserves better nutrition”. Oh yes, they surely do.
Premium Nutrition. That sounds simple enough. Everyone knows Continue reading »
Ever worried about or experienced the frustrating hassles that can come up when traveling with your pet? I’m betting many of you have. I can just imagine walking up to the gate to board my flight with my sweet little pup all comfy in his carrier and ready to go — but after a few questions being told that for reasons X, Y, and Z, the airline can’t accommodate my pet on board the flight and I’ll have to make other arrangements or try again later.
UGH… I’d be so upset.
ENTER: Sherpa Pet Group’s new Guaranteed on Board program and airline approved in-cabin pet carriers!
Sherpa got together with American Airlines to set some Continue reading »
Have you ever seen a person who is visually impaired walking around freely with a guide dog at their side and gotten goosebumps at the sight?
Paula Abdul with a Guide Dog
I have. I love seeing guide dogs around town with their perfect little vests that tell you right away, “I’m more than just a cute dog, I’m an extra special gift to my human companion, here.”
But I never had any idea how much of a gift these dogs really are until now. Continue reading »

Millions of fathers will be honored this Father’s Day weekend, and while searching for animal news I found out that there are some incredible, lesser-known fathers in the animal kingdom. As a complete animal lover (which I hope anyone reading this is too), I think we should celebrate these very special animal dads:
The [...]
