New York City fans will have the special opportunity this Sunday, Feb. 10th to meet Malachy, the 2012 Westminster Kennel Club “Best in Show” winner. Malachy will be signing “pawtographs” and taking pictures at our Union Square Petco (860 Broadway, New York, New York) from 1pm – 3pm.
Malachy bested more than 2,000 competing canines over the two-day event to claim the coveted purple-and-gold ribbon and silver bowl. Before a new prized pooch is crowned on February 12, 2013, this special Pekingese will make this special appearance to meet and pose for pictures with his dog-loving fans. All guests who attend the event will receive a free photo of Malachy, special offers and discounts from his favorite pet food brand, Purina Pro Plan. Malachy’s co-owner and handler, David Fitzpatrick, and Petco store associates will be on hand to answer questions and provide helpful tips on how guests can bring out the best in their very own four-legged champion by making sure that they are physically fit, mentally alert, socially engaged and emotionally happy.
Malachy fans will appreciate these fun facts about the famous show dog:
- The Pekingese breed dates back to ancient China. They are also referred to as Lion-Dogs due to their resemblance to Chinese Guardian Lions.
- At the 136th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, 11 lb. Malachy took the title of “Best in Show” over large breeds including a Dalmatian, German Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher, Irish Setter and Kerry Blue Terrier.
- Malachy was a runner up to Hickory, the Scottish Deerhound who was the 2011 Westminster “Best in Show.”
