Could you be more specific on what these “constraints” are?

  • wendy

this is a pretty useless. The food I’ve been trying to find for 3 months is iams premium protection senior. How is this helping to figure out what else to try?

  • KARIN JONES

What are these “constraints”? Are there problems consumers should be aware of re: the food or the company?

  • http://petco Laura Pearlman

The formula that they recommend I switch to (Adult small breed) is also out of stock. What should I do now? How long is it going to be out?

  • Helen

    Here’s the info:

This has been going on for a while!

I believe there are 2 different issues that caused the July and this recent pulling of stock. I am not so sure there is an issue this 2nd time but think I remember that production was limited because of improvements being made to the facility to make sure extra safeguards were in place. The original (July) “recall” was because there was a CHANCE of salmonella; conditions were such that it was possible it could develop. But after all testing was done, the samples did not in fact contain salmonella.
Aside from that, you can choose the equivalent Iams formula if it is available (like “Small Breed”, “Senior”, etc.). Iams formulas have always been inter-changeable with Eukanuba’s because the ingredients are sourced from the same suppliers, just the formulas are different and Euk. is a denser formula.
I would first stay with the same amt. you have used in Eukanuba and then gradually increase it slightly since the Iams is not as dense, if you feel your dog needs more kcals. We have done this “transition” from Euk. to Iams many times over the past 20 years when we could not get the Euk. we needed. And, in the past, I have verified with the Iams company that this is o.k. Both lines use “fixed formulas”, so ingredients do not vary from one batch to the next. Only when the complete formula is changed.

This is nuts. Eukanuba Sensitive Stomach for cats in the large bags is available at other sites. Why is it taking PETCO so long to get it when others already have???? Substituing a different variety won’t take care of their sensitive stomach needs…and that gets messy!!

  • cheryl

It seem to me that for as long as we have used Iams they have always been very bad to are senior friend no coupons no lower priceing when all the other were on sale and now it looks like all they are doing is changing the bag style and again the senoir food is the one that cant be found i hope those people who do this find the same treatment when they get old as they treated are older friends

  • Cristina

I was told by a local pet store employee (not PETCO) that the plant was shut down to be cleaned/refurbished until November, and that Iams had cut back on production of the brands/varieties that did not sell as well to concentrate on their best-sellers until they were back up to full production capacity. She also gave me an Iams customer service number – 800-525-4267, which you can call to get better info on how long your particular variety will be out of stock.
M – Can you advise where you found the big bags of Eukenuba Sensitive stomach? I have 4 cats who are on it, and am having trouble finding it.

  • debbie

I have three dogs and cant find an alternative formula. Changing is not good BUT I did it anyway to a whole new brand and wont be back to Eukenuba anymore.

  • Jeff R (Rocky River Ohio)

I inquired at the local pet store and their story was that the production facilities were shut down for enhancements. She indicated they are not expecting to see any food (especially cat) until the new year 2011. She did seem to indicate the dog food is more readily available and still seems to trickle in somehow (although in all fairness I was primarily listening to the cat food side of the story). Hope this helps. While not a Petco, it is a major competitor.

I can’t find the iams senior dog food for my dogs.I’ve gone to different towns and could not find it.

  • Chris

This is ridiculous. I have been feeding Iams for many many years and now I can’t find ANY of the formulas that my babies eat. Shame on you P&G. I’ve been considering Hill’s Science Diet. If I change brands, I won’t be back.

  • Judy

I can’t believe I can’t buy my cat food. I only have used Eukanuba Indoor and can’t get any until after the first of the year. Tried Iams once before, and had to take him to the vet, it was to rich for his system. Maybe some kind of warning would be nice. Don’t even have enough to gradually try and switch him now. I’m with Chris above. Considering switching brands and I won’t switch back!

  • http://(cite) Denise

This is very inconvenient- I have a dog with severe allergies plus a bit of a wt problem and the Eukanuba Lamb and Rice Weight Control really helped us keep a handle on the scratching, itching, licking. Now the switch over to another has been miserable for him and an injection @ the vet office and $80 later helped for the time being. How long will this be out of stock??

  • Yolanda

I have 4 cats that have been on IAMS since I got them. The oldest is 11 yrs & the youngest is 7 months. While I have used many different formulas I am currently using the Sensitive Stomach formula..pink bag for the 3 older cats. I am a bit irritated that this happened & as far as I know, no one was informed of it. I am even signed up for the IAMS emails! I didn’t get any kind of an email about this.

I’ll be looking for a new brand of food for my pets. There have been way too many problems with IAMS & I would be completely devastated if the food I fed my pets killed them or even caused them harm. Goodbye IAMS!

  • Jerry

P&G has the most animal cruelty of any company I know of. They do honorific testing on dogs and cats to research the IAMS food line. Look around the internet. It is full of the facts. I buy nothing from P&G and they make about everything. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68WSFk7zEYY

  • George

I have been a Eukanuba user for many years as my dogs did very well on it. It’s really too bad but my store has had nothing comparable that I can use in the IAMS or Eukanuba brands so I have been forced to completely change to Science Diet. My dogs have been on it for a couple of months now and they are both doing very well on it. Sorry Eukanuba, I guess I won’t be going back, and I find the price is generally a little cheaper for the large bags so I guess P&G is going to lose a lot of business…don’t they know that dog owners don’t like to change foods unless we have too.

  • PT

I have not been able to find the Iams Healthy Naturals Puppy anywhere — the only explanation from my usual store is “manufacturing shortages.” At least Petco has some information here on the website, even if the explanations are not very detailed. The Iams website has no information at all. Shame on them for not communicating openly with their loyal customers, who are running out of patience and loyalty. Is there a problem? Should I toss out the last bag I bought, which is still half full? These are the questions Iams needs to be answering.

  • KittenMama

I used the Iams/Eukaneuba recalls as an opportunity a better brand of food for my 8 month old kitten. My kitten has been on Natural Balance (Ultra Formula) for a couple months now and his coat is softer, plus I feel better about the ingredients I’m feeding him–no byproducts or fillers. Definitely recommend it.

  • Debbie Jo

Hi! I’m Tigger the cat. I have stomach problems and the only food that I can eat is the Eukanuba brand formulas. I have tried others but to no avail. They come right up again! Also, Eukanuba is the ONLY food that I really enjoy and eat with zest because it is delicious! My owner is feeding me other brands and I just throw them up. PLEASE hurry and get your wonderful food back on the market! Me and my 3 sisters are very glum and dissatisfied with the alternatives. They must eat what I do because we all share.
Please hurry and fix your dilemma. I’m starving!
    Love, Tigger

  • Heather

I was told that the problem has to do with switching packaging and not having enough packaging available. I was also told if I can find the formula I need to snatch it up because the expectation is that PetCo, PetSmart and WalMart will all be completely sold out of Eukanuba/IAMS in about a month and best case scenario is it will start appearing on the shelves again in limited quantities in January.

I have one dog with a sensitive stomach and one with allergies to pretty much everything so trying to find something they can both eat is challenging enough as it is. I might have to try switching them back to Science Diet if this goes on too long.

  • Esther

I like others here is finding it extremely hard to find food. I personally sent Eukanuba an e-mail describing my dissatisfaction and this is what they wrote.

“I’m sorry you’re having trouble finding the food you want for your pet. We recently did some work at one of our factories and it took longer than expected. This has resulted in the out-of-stock situation you’ve been experiencing. We are working to correct this as quickly as possible. We would expect some product to begin trickling back into stores as early as mid-November and all stores to be fully restocked by the end of January.

I am sending you some money-saving coupons. They should arrive in about two weeks.”

Thats it coupons!!!!! I need my dogs food seeing that she won’t eat anything else thus far. I have spent 65 dollars trying to buy other comparable brands and nothing. I am pretty much fed up with their blaze – we are sorry response. My last formula that I tried was the Science Diet formula and she is eating it but she is not eating it all. It appears she gets tired of the taste but at least she is eating it.

  • Nancy

I just called my store and they told me that the plant was shut down for cleaning until mid December. I’m not sure if this is true, but that is what the stores are being told.

  • Lori

Maybe you all should take this opportunity to do your pets a favor and switch their food to something that isn’t loaded with useless crap.

  • SLP

I was not very happy when going to the pet store to pick up my German shepherd’s Eukanuba Large Breed…90% of all the Eukanuba was gone.
I can’t believe some of you here posting how you can’t wait until it’s back in the stores.
Sorry, Eukanuba, but I will NOT be back, I changed brands. No, NOT IAMS.
Lost a good customer. 100lb German shepherd & 4 cats. Now will all have to have their food changed, I won’t do it again when Eukanuba ‘comes back’.

I have called everywhere trying to find my Dogs’ IAMS Toy and Small Breed Adult dog food. No one has it! I really don’t want to switch since my Pom and my Silky-poo are picky eaters! I don’t een have enough IAMS now to mix in with a new brand! Can anyone suggest another brand for my babies? Don’t want to get them sick! Thanks and no thanks to IAMS.

i have been using iams puppy for large breed and my puppy does well on it. i had to buy the smart puppy food for him he is a 6 month old lab when will the large breed brand come back,

  • Deanna

There are Many stories circulating regarding the Iams/Eukanuba shortage. One because of contamination of melamine, one because of salmonella, and one of production issues.. all 3 could be just linked to a one after one issue.. however.. I’m also having to pull my dogs off, since I can no longer get theirs and well.. they don’t handle change too well, but.. The next best step up for most, is the AUTHORITY Brand by Petsmart.. no fillers, and also no by products.. I’m not having any issue with it.. and price is very comparison! ProPlan is always a good choice as well, and can be found at most ALL Pets Stores. Big loss for Iams, but our pets are more important to us, then sitting and playing guessing games! To me, My Pets are family!

  • Susan

I moved over to Blue Buffalo – they love it

  • drcjunj

Why doesn’t PETCO just own up and refer people to the press release by P & G, http://www.eukanuba.com/en-US/product-recall.html, instead of calling this “temporary manufacturing constraints “? What a load of crap! Withholding information is not that much different from lying!

I have been looking for Iams Healthy Naturals Salmon cat food forever. Every now and then I find one at the multitude of stores that I have checked. Now, big zero.
My babies do not like the chicken flavor regular or the chic. flavored healthy naturals. I read the label on “the good recipe” it is by mars. Any comments anyone.
They love the taste but I am more concerned with the health issues. It does not have fillers, or pres., it is all natural. any comments.
    thanks
please post if you find any iams in fl

Again, my local store in IN has been nice enough to tow the company line about cleaning, new packaging yadda yadda yadda. Both of my kittens have been on Eukanuba since we adopted them. Hill’s Science Diet, here we come! P&G can stuff it. I won’t be switching back if it EVER becomes available again. Damn crooks.
