Randy Grim feeding a stray on the St. Louis Streets
Back in January, one of our associates had the opportunity to accompany Randy Grim, the founder of Stray Rescue, on one of his rescue and feeding trips in the streets of St. Louis. During those hours, he witnessed the large number of stray animals roaming the [...]

I’m a San Diegan and I surf. It took me a while to figure it out so it impressed me to no end last Saturday at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition when I saw dozens of dog pulling off this tricky feat.
There was a small dog, large dog, and human & dog riding together category. For the most part the dogs loved it. They got to romp around in the ocean with the person they love the most and get lots and lots of attention. What more could they ask for.
Here are a few pictures from the event. I stood in waist-deep ocean water for an hour to snap these pics so I hope you enjoy them. =)
Just a little push to get started

Max mugging for the camera
I wasn’t sure that I wanted to get clownfish. I’m not sure how to explain that, except that I usually like to take a different route from the typical pet owner. But then again, I know that there is a reason that the “typical” pet owner chooses the pets he/she chooses. [...]
As Pet Cancer Awareness Month enters its final days, remember that each and every one of us has the opportunity to help build awareness and raise funds toward research of this devastating disease.
As part of PETCO’s efforts to raise awareness nationwide, we have created a virtual memorial wall where you can post personal pet cancer stories. As of today, the wall is decorated with nearly 200 heartfelt and powerful stories from across the country – stories about pets who survived cancer and about pets who lost their battles with it, but live on in our memories. We encourage you to check out the wall and share your story of survival or loss.

 Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli’s Brave Battle with Lymphoma by Cynthia2001
My precious Lazuli was diagnosed with small to medium cell small intestinal lymphoma with lymph node involvement on December 10, 2009. She was diagnosed by ultrasound and endoscopy. Lazuli had quite a battle in the beginning after diagnosis and developed Pancreatitis which required an E-tube in order to eat and gain weight. She is currently receiving chemotherapy-pill form and has gained back most of the weight she had lost. She is also on several medications in the form of transversal ointment as she is THE MOST DIFFICULT cat in the world to give medication to orally! I am happy to say Lazuli is playful, affectionate, eating on her own, and possibly in remission for now. Lazuli is a survivor of a type of lymphoma which is treatable but not curable.
I am grateful to her oncologist and Continue reading »

As someone who’s been in the Aquatics hobby for a long time, I’ve kept just about every type of aquarium. I’ve kept Bettas, community tanks, Discus, fish-only marine tanks, a couple reefs, a desktop nano planted tank, of course my cichlid tank is a favorite; so what to do now? I’ve kept so many high-end aquariums with all types of hard-to-keep fish, that I wanted to go “back to the basics” for my next one…
Goldfish. The fish that every kid starts with. Most of us can remember winning a goldfish at the fair and getting all excited to bring home your new pet. Mom throws it in a small glass bowl, and you toss in some flake food, right? Well, this isn’t the type of goldfish tank I’m talking about. Really, goldfish should never be kept in an unfiltered tank, and especially something as small as a glass bowl. Most people don’t realize that goldfish get BIG!! Even a 10 gallon tank will be quickly outgrown. They’re also one of the dirtiest fish around because of the amount of waste they produce.
So what size of tank did I want to set up? I had a 29 gallon BioCube sitting around and thought to myself, “why not put it to use?” For those of you not familiar with a BioCube, it’s a high-end tank, usually set up for a reef with corals, not goldfish. My next question was what decor do I want to use? Live plants and a couple cool pieces of driftwood? Well, this is a goldfish tank right? I’m going to use a big castle! And as long as I’m going with the castle why not put…

For the seventh consecutive season, PETCO’s Adoption Sundays at PETCO Park are in full swing! I have to admit, it’s my favorite part of the baseball season. During every Sunday Padres home game, PETCO is sharing their commitment to Think Adoption First by partnering with an animal rescue group to bring adoptable pets to PETCO Park in hopes of finding loving, forever homes for them.
Already this season, PETCO has partnered with several groups, including the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services and San Diego Labrador Rescuers. I am so thrilled with how Adoption Sundays are going so far! We had so much fun with Clive and Beso from County of San Diego Department of Animal Services and Yogi and Chester from San Diego Labrador Rescuers. During the first adoption Sunday of the season, both Continue reading »
