Oh my God this made me cry, but helped me so much.
My husband I just recently started fostering and our first 3 puppies that we have had a month are leaving tomorrow.
I'm so sad!
But I am getting 3 new puppies and just as you said, I have to keep in mind that by adopting them out I open my home for more to be rescued.
They are all so precious though and Ijust wish I could keep them all!
But that's what they call heaven right?

It is with tears in my eyes that I write that I loved reading Pocket's story and the author is a wonderful writer. I love Pits but I have an American Bulldog which looks similar to Pits but they are much larger. I always correct people when they think she's a pit, and yet I HATE that I feel the need to correct them. Pits were once known as the babysitter dog, they were war heros and adored by people until unscrupulous people did their worst to sweet pits.

It is so sad how many pit bulls (and other breeds too) are put to sleep every year because they are misunderstood or do not have enough people to help them. Thank you for sharing Pocket's story and thank you so much for the work that you do.

Kim, what a wonderful account of being a foster for animals. I would be doing it in a heartbeat if I wasn't in an apartment with very little yard, but I admit to having many of the same reservations that you addressed in your posting. Thanks for sharing the information!

As a rescuer, foster & adopter of this loving breed it is hard not to fall in love with all of them.

I think Pocket should be adopted by someone at the NSC so we can still have regular visits and play time :)

I couldn't have described how I feel when 'giving up' a foster any better than that Kim. It really is the hardest thing to do, but absolutely the right thing to do. You're a wonderful person for opening your heart and home like you do.

I love pit bulls. I personally have 6 that I adopted from local people. The reason I adopt them is because I dont want to see them going to a shelter and being put down or getting into the wrong hands and becoming a fighting dog. I truely love pit bulls and would like to see more people getting out with there pit bulls and showing people that they are not monsters. I trust all them with my life. I feel that education is the key for more people to adopt them or be a foster home for them untill there forever family comes along.

What a great story! You put in to words beautifully what it feels like to rescue\foster an animal. It is definitely hard to put them in the arms of their new owner and say goodbye sometimes heart wrenching but the tears and pain do subside. The memories created while fostering them and knowing that they are currently thriving in their new home are the greatest feelings in the world! God love you and the work that you do!

I owned a Pit Bull/Rottweiler mix named Lyndsay. She was a superb, kind, gentle dog. Unfortunately, we lost her several years ago to heart failure, this was after she endured a year and a half of treatments for lymphoma. She gave us so much joy and love.
