Thanks for the encouragement! I have a follow up posting about my progress coming out soon. I take readings on the tank every other day with my test kit. I saw the ammonia go up, then the nitrite, then the nitrate, and now everything is at 0. It's so satisfying!

I decided to heat the tank to 76.

Oh, and I have to admit, I was eyeing one of my 55 gallon fresh water tanks this morning, and wondering how it would look if I converted it to a marine tank...

Tank looks good! Do more research there are several creatures and fish the will keep those nasty bristle worms in check! If you have live rock unfortuatly it comes with some less than desirerable creatures. Dip stick test are "ok" but the master test kits will give you much more accuurate results. And get a deep six hydrometer most accurate I've found next to a refractometer. As far as heating goes though it may say it's not nessecary - ick a common marine parisite can not complete it's life cycle in warmer water I keep both of my tanks at 82 degrees and use garlic extreme (I soak thier food in it) and I haven't had any ick - which can be difficult to treat depending on what you have in your tank -many treatments are not reef and invert safe. Good luck with it!! I bet within a year you'll have another one set up, 1 tank is never enough :)

The tank looks great Lee! You're asking the correct questions and doing the right research, keep it up! Have fun stocking the tank with fish, but just remember to take your time and don't overload it all at once. I'm jealous, my first marine tank didn't come with T-5 lighting and a protein skimmer...
