Mr. January

2010 PETCO Foundation Calendar Photo for January

This story comes from Chris Garcia. The picture of his adopted greyhound Harvey was selected for the month of January in the PETCO Foundation’s 2010 calendar.

I adopted Harvey on Dec. 23, 2008. After my fiancé,  Andrea, came back from a trip telling me all about this couple who had 2 ex-racing Greyhounds. For weeks she looked online and was dreaming about adopting one. At first I wanted nothing to do with it. She begged me to consider it and showed me all these great pictures. Eventually I started to consider adopting (without letting Andrea know of course).

A week before Christmas I submitted an application to GreySave. After they visited my home and gave it a thorough inspection they agreed to let me adopt! Harvey, the dog I ended up adopting, was actually the same one that came along on the inspection. When I saw him, I knew I wanted him, and knew Andrea would LOVE him. So Harvey came to be a part of the family and Andrea’s present in 2008.

We’ve adopted another greyhound since then named Olive. They are inseparable and love each other very, very much.

We continue to help out with GreySave at local Meet & Greets and Homecoming Days, and attend Greyhound social events.

If you are thinking about getting a dog I strongly encourage you to look into Greyhound rescue.

We also have two GreySave rescues and they are wonderful dogs! GreySave is such a great organization to work with!
