What most people tend to overlook is that you can contract salmonella not only from amphibians and reptiles, but also from dog, cats, small animals, under cooked/uncooked food as wells as other people. Reptiles always tend to get a bad rap, while agree there is a higher risk but I believe that some of it is because they aren't considered mainstream pets.
