The following guest blog comes from the creator of the awesome website freekibble.com, Mimi Ausland.
Hi Everyone! This is Mimi Ausland from freekibble.com. Freekibble has now generated over 1.6 million meals to homeless dogs and cats. We have been very successful so far, but decided that it was time to get more kids involved. Especially because we have gotten so many e-mails from kids all over the world wanting to do more. So we launched the first ever Kibble Krusader Kontest for Kids.

Mimi from freekibble.com
The contest was for Kids ages 7-18 who wanted to do more for their local animal shelter. All they had to do was write us about why their animal shelter was so special to them. We would then pick five winners to receive $1,000 worth of Halo Dinner Party Treats for their shelters. Hundreds of entries were e-mailed to freekibble.com (from 44 different states and Canada) and you could definitely tell it was going to be very hard to choose the five winners. Boy, was I right! At the end of the contest my family and I sat down to choose the winners. We had all the e-mails in front of us and got to work. We were able to narrow it down to about 15 and then slowly but surely started choosing the 5 entries that really stood out. Finally – sitting in front of us, were the e-mails from 5 kids whose shelters would receive the Dinner Party Treats. All of us could tell that what they said came right from their hearts. I e-mailed the winners and told them the exciting news! They were all joyful and thankful to freekibble.com and Halo Pets. Their shelters were thrilled to be getting the treats for their animals as well.
The Kibble Krusader Kontest was so very cool, because it showed that if you do not think that kids can make a difference well then, you’re wrong. Kids DO care and they CAN make a difference.
Here is one of the five winning entries and you can go to http://www.freekibble.com/kontest.asp to view the rest!
Keith Webster, Age 12, Shelter: Humane Society of Tacoma, Wash.: This shelter is important to me because that is where I adopted my special little dog. He is a Jack Russell Terrier. His name is Nedley. He is white with tan spots on his eyes. I play with Ned every day of my life because I care about him so much. Sometimes I spend all weekend just us together and as I type this I am holding him. I had wanted a dog since I could talk but I got him when I was ten. When I got him in the car for the very first time he crawled on my lap and he laid his head on my hand for the long trip on the road. I feel so happy that when I went to the Humane society I got to look at two little eyes looking straight back at me. Thank you Humane Society.
