Ever worried about or experienced the frustrating hassles that can come up when traveling with your pet? I’m betting many of you have. I can just imagine walking up to the gate to board my flight with my sweet little pup all comfy in his carrier and ready to go — but after a few questions being told that for reasons X, Y, and Z, the airline can’t accommodate my pet on board the flight and I’ll have to make other arrangements or try again later.
UGH… I’d be so upset.
ENTER: Sherpa Pet Group’s new Guaranteed on Board program and airline approved in-cabin pet carriers!
Sherpa got together with American Airlines to set some pet travel guidelines that ensure a pet’s safety and comfort when traveling in-cabin on a plane – and then created a line of carriers that meet those guidelines, and a guarantee that makes traveling with pets worry-free.
All you have to do is make sure you have one of the approved Sherpa carriers, visit Sherpa’s Guaranteed On Board site to complete and print the Guaranteed On Board certificate, bring it to the airport to show at check-in — and voila! You’re guaranteed to get on board your flight with your pet, or Sherpa will refund the cost of your ticket and your pet travel fee.
I say KUDOS to both Sherpa and American Airlines for stepping up and setting the bar on in-cabin pet travel safety, and then backing it up with a real guarantee.
Check out this video to see just how easy and worry-free it can be:

Not being able to take your pup on an airplane is like being told your child can’t go to many pet owners. I agree, great job AA and Sherpa!
Word on the street is SWA now has some flights were they allow pets in the cabin.
Good call, P.J.
Southwest is also participating in Sherpa’s Guaranteed On Board program. Check it out: http://www.sherpapetgroup.com/gob_southwest
Another great idea.
Southwest has a policy for pets that says pet carriers must be, “19 in. long, 14 in. wide and 8.25 in. height/tall.
I do not know of any carrier that is 8.5 inches tall let alone have a 13lb dog be able to stand and turn around in a carrier 8.25 inches tall. Am I crazy or reading this policy wrong. Even the Sherpa’s are 10in tall.
a collapseable (one you can push down) might work I guess, like sturdibag but they dont have any on wheels…so that is no good for someone who is handicap.
