Fatherly Love

Someone at the PETCO office recently shared this story and I thought it was too sweet not to pass on...

"This is a picture of my two dogs, Duke and his son, Jessie. Jessie was just weeks old when he was stung on the lip by a bee. After calling the vet and administering home treatments, I put Jessie to rest on my bed. Duke was so tense and concerned that once Jessie was settled, he crawled in bed with him. I kept checking on Jessie ever so often—catching them in this position. Duke stayed in bed with Jessie for about 6 hours and only when Jessie was ready to play again did Duke leave his side. "

The love and compassion these animals have is abounding and in a world where there can be so much darkness, this innocent love is such a precious thing.

  • Awwwww. That is adorable! I have two dachshunds, and I don’t know what I’d do if they got a bee sting :(

What a sweet photo! Bee stings are scary enough for large dogs.. I can’t imagine how sad they must be for the little guys!

  • Too dang cute! WE have a maine coon mom that we bred before spaying her because several people loved her personality SO much they wanted kittens- well, we ended up keeping 3 of the 5 babies, and they are still “momma’s girls”. She runs tot heir defense if she thinks our pomeranian/ japanese chin mix is getting too rough- the dog’s smaller than the darn cats – they’re HUGE!! It’s just so sweet how the groom and care for eac other, forever bonded to each other.

Here’s a similar story: Years ago, we took our beagle, Holden, to get his teeth cleaned. When we went to pick him up from the vet he was visibly bloated. It was gastric torque. After much effort, the vet was able to release the gas from his tummy, but was concerned that he was going to bloat again during the night.

All that night, I had to measure his tummy every hour and he still had his IV in his arm. Our Weimareiner, Winston, never left Holden’s side. Normally, they coexist, but aren’t really close. That night, Winston was nose to nose with Holden. He watched him and wouldn’t leave Holden for anything. It was something to see.

BTW – Holden did not rebloat and he’s still waddling about, as always.

  • Thanks for the post, i enjoyed reading it. blogging is not as easy as many think it is, it’s hardwork. any how thanks.
