Fatherly Love

Someone at the PETCO office recently shared this story and I thought it was too sweet not to pass on…

“This is a picture of my two dogs, Duke and his son, Jessie. Jessie was just weeks old when he was stung on the lip by a bee. After [...]

In Trying Times

The following story comes from Patrick Daly, an Assistant Manager at the PETCO store in Allen Park, Mich.

As I stand on the sidewalk, watching men and women dressed in Hazmat suits move hastily in and out of what looks like a well kept bungalow-style house, the unmistakable odor of garbage and animal feces permeates the air.

Garbage bag after garbage bag of waste is being carried to an awaiting dumpster.

“You have to move to across the street, people!” the man in the white suit and helmet says. “It’s not safe to be breathing in this stuff.”

The group of bystanders moves quickly to the other side of the street. “How could anyone live like that?” one says. Everyone nods in agreement.

Three days earlier, on July 24 , the Dearborn Animal Control officers aided by the Dearborn Animal Shelter and following up on a tip, raided a home  in Dearborn, Mich.

Chihuahua's were found throughout the home

More Than A Pledge

We launched our pledge to premium nutrition today. Hmmm. A Pledge. A pledge to me is like a promise. A really important promise, at that. When I first chatted with our Sr. VP of Marketing, Elisabeth Charles about it, it dawned on me that our pledge is not only important, but at the heart of who we are and what we do at PETCO because it is at the heart of who we are and what we do as good pet parents. The first line of the pledge couldn’t sum it up any better, “PETCO believes every pet deserves better nutrition”. Oh yes, they surely do.

Premium Nutrition. That sounds simple enough. Everyone knows Continue reading »

Journey to Rescue – the trip to Indiana

nico09_1If you’re anything like me, you may have been aware that something called Rescue Transport Networks existed but that’s about it. I’ve always pictured some furtive Underground Railroad sort of set up where folks in black skull caps and dark coveralls steal into shelters late at night and whisk away at-risk dogs to sequester them in other parts of the country while they hatch a new plan for them.

Wow! This was not at all the case – transports are about daylight and love and rescue in ways that I had never experienced rescue. With the global reach of such services as Continue reading »

Guaranteed On Board

Ever worried about or experienced the frustrating hassles that can come up when traveling with your pet? I’m betting many of you have. I can just imagine walking up to the gate to board my flight with my sweet little pup all comfy in his carrier and ready to go — but after a few questions being told that for reasons X, Y, and Z, the airline can’t accommodate my pet on board the flight and I’ll have to make other arrangements or try again later.

UGH… I’d be so upset.

ENTER: Sherpa Pet Group’s new Guaranteed on Board program and airline approved in-cabin pet carriers! Sherpa's Guranteed On Board American Airlines Carrier

Sherpa got together with American Airlines to set some Continue reading »

PETCO Works With Make-A-Wish to Make a Difference

Bernice making an i.d. tag for her new puppy

Bernice making an i.d. tag for her new puppy

Bernice is a shy, scared, young girl, suffering from a terminal disease. But for a day, PETCO got to make it all better.

Bernice is a “wish child” with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As a kid with a lot of hard days behind her and yet to come, it was nice for her to enjoy an afternoon of just being a kid, shopping for her new golden retriever puppy, Scooby. The puppy, which she was picking up in exactly one week, was her “wish” from the foundation, but the trip to PETCO was Continue reading »

Journey to Rescue – The Stay in San Diego

nico09_5Nico looked at me with those languid bicolored eyes that held no fear or malice or even a sense of having been wronged. The smile that was on his face as he left the shelter last week now shone through his eyes and his demeanor, even through the dirt and the scars and the open sores and many healing wounds.

I went to visit Nico a couple of times while he was in Continue reading »
