What’s so BIG about the BIGGEST float? A lot actually. First, it not only is breaking a Guinness World Record by being the World’s Biggest Rose Parade float at a whopping114 feet, the float will also be carrying a Guinness World Record Breaker—Tillman. Tillman was inducted into the Guinness World Book of Records as [...]
Yesterday I shared the great news on the Scoop that I get the distinct pleasure of being a participant on Natural Balance’s Guinness Book World Record Breaking float at the Rose Parade this Friday:
We’re bringing the experience live to all of you through our blog, twitter, and facebook and giving away [...]
There are moments I will fondly remember in my career– First pay check, first raise, first uncomfortable work moment due to sheer proximity of seating on a plane, forcedly bonding with co-workers during a 16 hour flight (you can only ask so many questions about people’s children!) and then there’s having my wallet stolen in a [...]

It was the news no one wants to hear. My friend Sarah came over with tears rolling down her cheeks and told me “Stella has cancer”. As I pulled her in and held her, I could feel my chest tighten, my stomach was suddenly upset, and my vision blurred a bit as I tried to hold in my tears. I wanted to be strong for her, but all I could think about was poor Stelly and the long road she had in front of her.

Jimmy Van Patten, of Natural Balance speaks, as Charlie Piscitello, SVP, Chief People Officer at PETCO listens
Last Saturday, a group of us from PETCO, the PETCO Foundation and Natural Balance Pet Foods attended the 3rd Annual Guide Dogs Heroes Brunch in Palm Springs, CA. The annual Heroes Brunch is hosted by Guide Dogs of the Desert to acknowledge the work of its volunteers, puppy raisers, supporters and donors from the past year. The mission of the Guide Dogs of the Desert is to “improve the lives of the blind by creating opportunities for life-changing independence, and by conducting community outreach and education programs.” I’ve had the privilege of being involved with this group for several years now and find it so inspiring. This year they chose to honor PETCO, the PETCO Foundation and Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet food, for our joint partnership in support of Guide Dog schools across the country. As part of National Guide Dog Month last May, PETCO and Natural Balance raised over $600,000 Continue reading »

I have to say that raisins might be the most expensive commodity in my home this past couple of months. The problem is that I haven’t had the pleasure of consuming them for the $600 I’ve spent.
A number of months ago, I harvested the grapes in my vegetable garden. In the process a number of them fell on the ground. I didn’t think too much of that and left them to become raisins and then mulch. In the process of puttering in the garden, little Pocket (my 10 pound pit bull foster) was wandering around behind me gobbling up random stuff on the ground as puppies will do. I noticed that she was munching on the little shriveled grapes and, knowing that grapes can be bad for dogs, stopped her and made a mental note to keep an eye on whether she seemed to get sick from them.
